Genital herpes and oral
sex
Genital herpes and oral sex seem to have a history of their own. Earlier
the cold sores and
genital herpes of type1 version was caused by HSV1 virus strains.
However, it has been seen that as more and more people become sexually active these days, oral sex can also
cause genetal herpes to transfer from the mouth to the genitals of the other person thereby resulting in more
infection.
Mouth contacts
If a person has been infected with genetial herpes they can easily transmit the virus from themselves
to another uninfected person.
The HSV virus strains of type1 can easily be transferred from the mouth of one person to the genitals of
another.
Kissing and other forms of physical affection involving direct skin contact or transfer of bodily fluids can
easily pass on the viral strains to the other individual.
The result is an exponential spread of the genetial herpes virus especially if many people are involved with
each other in a sexual manner.
Incubation periods
Genital herpes and oral sex are often mutually interlinked. When two people have sexual physical contact and
engage in oral sex or kissing there can be spread of the dreaded genetal herpes virus.
The typical incubation period of genital herpes infection is between two to as many as ten days.

Between this period, the person has already started contracting genital herpes but there are no visible symptoms
manifested on the person’s skin. Thus, during the incubation period of genital herpes, the person experiences other
symptoms such as fever, flu symptoms, headaches, nausea as well as muscle pain.
In women, other symptoms such as excess discharge of vaginal fluid
may occur. In men and women, the blisters or lesions can occur around the genital region, buttocks, anus,
thighs, scrotum in men, vulva, cervix or vagina in women.
Once the incubation period of the genital herpes infection ends, the visible symptoms start to develop such as
red blisters, lesions etc. These eventually burst forming sores filled with fluid and are the cause of extreme
genital herpes pain.
Do you have to abstain from oral sex?
There are many different ways to interpret this. It all depends on the extent and severity of the genetial
herpes condition.
For example, if you have cold sores and genital herpes symptoms, you definitely need to check with your health
care professional to diagnose if you have genital herpes infection or not.
If you have been diagnosed with genital herpes and oral sex is on your mind, you need to exercise caution for a
few days or weeks, at least until the symptoms subside.
Make sure to take the necessary dosage of medicines for the duration as specified by your physician. In this
manner, you will be able to curtail the spread of genital herpes outbreak.
In fact, in the antiviral suppressant mode of treatment, the medicines should be taken everyday and if done
regularly, you can curtail the severity of the genital herpes infection and reduce the duration of the genetial
herpes.
